Icelandic Choir Berlin
The immediacy of the human voice makes it a key feature of sonic traditions - particularly in a culture that over the centuries has generally lacked instruments, imported or locally produced. With an added lack of a culture of public space for congregating, and sharing - in earlier as well as modern times - community practices like singing in a choir become a vital sphere of human interaction and one that is in turn tightly linked to the countries evangelical lutheran tradition. A choir is generally a feature of Icelandic expat communities in any location offering a slight density of potential participants. Indeed, the Icelandic choir in Berlin has just recently been re-established, conducted by Haraldur Þrastarson.
